This post is the bomb. Literally! Sorry, couldn’t help myself, it’s all the Christmas spirit! 😁
Anyways, today I’m showing you how to make hot cocoa chocolate bombs, from scratch, at home, in a super easy and fun way!
These hot cocoa bombs are perfect for adding a little fun to your hot chocolate station, Christmas movie marathon or simply wrap them up to give to someone you love!
How To Make Hot Cocoa Bombs for Christmas
To be honest, when I first saw that I could make hot cocoa bombs at home, I wasn’t at all convinced it would be so easy.
I mean, if you ever tried making Easter eggs at home or working with chocolate, you know that’s no easy task.
The chocolate can crack, can melt, can also look dull…not to mention all the time when it actually gets stuck to the mold 🙄
So like I said, I wasn’t convinced. Until I did it! Now I’m hooked and totally set on making these EVERY Christmas (and beyond).
These hot cocoa bombs turned out super adorable all fancied up with edible glitter, colored icing and pretty festive sugar decorations, which I bought at my local craft store Cultura.fr
Oh, and did I mention they’re SO easy to make, provided you follow just a couple of easy tips? Yep, they’re so simple, inexpensive and so fun to make too!
My tip number one is to use a really flexible mold for this recipe. I bought mine in a local craft store near my home, but you can easily get these online on Amazon.
Secondly, make sure to add a couple of heaped tablespoons of the melted chocolate in each cavity to coat it well with the back of a teaspoon to ensure the chocolate halves or “shell” will be thick enough and won’t break once set.
Also, if you get any gaps or holes when adding the two shell halves together, just use the back of a teaspoon and some more melted chocolate to fill them.
Lastly, avoid handling the cocoa bombs too much, as the heat of your hands will leave fingerprints on the chocolate.
To avoid this, use paper baking cups to sit the finished bombs on.
For this occasion, I made white and dark chocolate hot cocoa bombs and filled them with hot chocolate mix, mini marshmallows and sugar stars, though the stars were totally melted before you could admire them 😆
You can also fill your hot cocoa bombs with anything you like or that would fit inside the bombs and would keep well at room temperature. Here are a few examples of flavor add-ons you can include inside your hot cocoa bombs:
* White hot chocolate mix
* Mini marshmallows
* More chocolate chips
* Chocolate, Biscoff or other spreads
* Nut butters
* Crushed candy canes
* Crushes cookies
* Gingerbread cake crumbs
* Nuts, dried fruits
* Gummy bears and other candy of your choice
You can basically get creative and add any ingredient that you would normally add to your hot chocolate, except the perishable ones like whipped cream of course! 😉
To decorate my hot cocoa bombs I used ready-made icing, sugar stars, edible gold glitter, more melted chocolate to drizzle on top and those adorable sugar Christmas decoration to finish it off in style!
I love how these cocoa bombs turned out for Christmas, but I plan on making more themed ones for all the winter holidays!
Come to think of it, these would be the bomb on New Year’s Day, right? Sorry, pun totally intended! 😁
To use your hot cocoa bombs simply add hot milk and watch the magic happen! Alternatively, add cold milk and stick it in the microwave – but you won’t be able to see the magic happen before your eyes, which kind of defeats the point.
