It’s just over a month away from Valentine’s Day and unlike previous years where it just creeps up on me, this year I’m starting early, so I’ll have plenty of time to share lots of fun and creative ideas with you guys!
Valentine’s Day Hot Cocoa Bombs Gifts & My Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe
Since it’s still officially hot chocolate season, I thought there would be nothing more appropriate than to carry on making them for Valentine’s Day!
In fact, I’m hoping I’ll still get away with making them for as long as I can way into St Patrick’s Day (you’ve been warned!) 😆
Anyways, these hot cocoa bombs are still all the rage in my house, and my kids love coming home from school to a nice cup of yummy hot chocolate, and yes; the fun of watching the hot cocoa bombs melt away into a pool of hot milk still put a smile of their tired little faces! 🥰 It’s all about the simple pleasures in life, am I right?
Like I said, these hot cocoa bombs are so fun, inexpensive and easy to make, they are the prefect edible craft activity for any Valentine’s Day family activity, or they also make a great party favor or gift to hand on on love day!
To make these befitting of Valentine’s day, I went to town with the love hearts, pink and red sugar decorations, and I also used pink and red food coloring to color my chocolate.
Please note: If you’re coloring your own chocolate at home like I did, be sure to buy the fat-soluble kind and NOT the water-soluble food coloring, otherwise you’ll end up with a right old mess in your hands. Chocolate contains a lot of fat and your regular off-the-shelf food coloring won’t work here. You can alternatively buy candy melts or chocolate that’s already colored.
You can pretty much decorate these hot cocoa bombs with any sugar sprinkles you like, and you can also fill them with anything yummy that tickles your fancy!
I tend to keep them simple with my own hot cocoa mix recipe and marshmallows. Since this is a Valentine’s Day version, I used heart-shaped marshmallows.
But you can get super creative with fillings and go to town and include things like chocolate spread, peanut butter, crushed candy, cookies, etc. inside the hot cocoa bombs.
My homemade hot chocolate mix is super simple but my daughter actually says it tastes like a “liquid Lindt chocolate in a cup”. I take that as a complement! 😉
The recipe for my go-to hot cocoa mix can be found below. You simply add a couple of heaped teaspoons (or more if you’d like) of this mix to each hot cocoa bomb and as many marshmallows as you can fit inside them and you’re good to go!
