Simms High School will host the Super Duper Pre-Divisional Simms/Power-Dutton-Brady speech and drama tournament at Simms on Saturday January 15th. We are co-hosting with Power, Dutton-Brady.
We have a Super Hero Theme to celebrate the extra effort that everyone has had to return to our normal activities! We are LIVE this year! We are also excited because this will be the first home tournament that will feature our brand new Middle School team!
There will be 17 schools attending. If you’d be willing to help judge an event, make cookies or chili for the hospitality room, or just want to see what Speech & Drama is all about, please come!
Spectators are welcome. Please mask at your own discretion. Rounds are at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m,., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Awards will be held approximately at 4:00 in the gym.
We are very thankful for our many community volunteers without which we could not run this event! This will be the last high school speech and drama tournament before our divisional tournament in Choteau on Saturday January 22nd. Good luck, Super Tigers! We are proud of you!
If you come to the tournament, you will leave inspired by the acting talent and rhetoric of Montana students. For more information, please contact Coach Davidson at 2645110, ext. 108.
Simms Choir students will participate in an event with 15 other schools on Sunday January 16th! Since 2009, KUSM/MontanaPBS has produced, in cooperation with composer and musician Tim Janis, a music special featuring Montana high school and middle school choirs. Mr. Janis had the idea to combine his love for public television and for music education into a program focused on local school choirs. Each choir performs one selection of music that Tim and the choir directors have agreed upon. We have a full television crew in the studio, with multiple cameras, microphones, and full studio lighting, a television director, audio specialists, and many volunteers to help manage the day. It is a great opportunity for these students to perform in an actual television production studio and have a recorded television experience that is broadcast to the entire state. Additionally, there will be a coordinated vocal clinic with the MSU Department of Music faculty. For more information, please contact Mrs. Davidson at 2645110, ext. 108.
Simms students will participate in Poetry Out Loud during the month of January, culminating with a schoolwide competition on Tuesday, January 25th at 9:00 a.m.
Students in certain English classes and students on the Speech/Drama team are participating. Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation and also including the Montana Arts Council, this event encourages the study of great poetry and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country.
Poetry Out Loud is offered in all 50 states. “More than 4 million students have participated in poetry out loud since 2005, many advancing from classroom competitions to school competitions to state competitions and ultimately to the national finals where students compete for the grand prize of $20,000”– Amy Stolls, Director, Literary Arts, National Endowment for the Arts.
Please stay tuned for the announcement of our winners of the Simms school-wide competition! They will be headed to regionals!
